He was the husband of Maureen T. (Thompson) Benedict. They married on October 2, 1993. His first wife, Patricia L. (Ziegler) Benedict, died in 1983.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late William and Anna Marie (Horwath) Benedict.
He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1954 and Albright College in 1959 where he was a member of Pi Tau Beta; he remained active in his fraternity for the rest of his life.
Lou was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Military Intelligence Corps.
He worked as a regional sales manager for 30 years for R.W. Eaken Inc., Leesport and retired from Textile Chemical in 1999.
Lou was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Douglassville.
He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Lou was a 20 + year member of the Berks County Basketball Officials Association, CBOA (College Basketball Officials Association), and IAABO (International Association of Approved Basketball Officials); he coached Jr. High School Boys Basketball for both the Muhlenberg and Governor Mifflin School Districts.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Jeffrey A., husband of Joelle H. Benedict, Reading; two step-sons, Steven D. Hornig, Athens, GA and Joshua D., husband of Gina Hornig, Oley and six grandchildren: Jakeb A. Benedict, Ellie Pat Benedict, Julianna Hornig, Macee Rose Hornig, Bailey Hornig and Gunner Hornig.
Services will be this coming Friday, July 10th with a visitation from 10am-11am and a service at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Rd, Douglassville, PA 19518.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the above address or Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading, 1161 Pershing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. Edward J.
