Joan Diane Cassell Lashley, 87, passed away at her home in Selma, NC, April 13, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her daughter, son, and grand-daughter have been vigilant in their care for her.

She was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, May 6, 1931, to the late Henry Clay Cassell and Nathalie Groesbeck Cassell. She graduated from Fond du Lac Wisconsin High School in 1950, then moved to the Washington, D.C., area where she worked for several Federal Departments. She met her future husband in D.C., Joe Clegg Lashley.
They married April 10, 1953, at the Episcopal Church in Olney, MD, then moved to his home in Raleigh, NC.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Joe Clegg Lashley, and her daughter, Locksley Lashley Seferovic.

Surviving are her daughter, Melanie Lashley Dino (Richard) of Connecticut and grandchildren Adriana Dino-Dunn (Will) of Memphis and Colin Dino now serving in the Air Force; her son, Clay Cassell Lashley of Raleigh and her grand-daughter, Nathalie Seferovic, of Wake Forest. She is also survived by two sisters: Suzanne Eubanks (Kenneth) of Nebraska. and Dixie Lee Cassell of North Carolina.

Joan's passion in life were her family and history, not to mention genealogy. After the children had left home, she worked at Williamsburg, George Washington's Birthplace, George Mason's Home and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.

She was a treasure to her family and has left them a treasure trove of family history.

She will be buried at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Liberty, NC.
