YATES FUNERAL HOME OBIT:
Lois Eleanor Read Abate, 89, of Coeur d'Alene, ID, former resident of Sun City West, AZ, Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Shavertown, PA, went to be with her Lord January 9, 2019, at The Lodge at Fairway Forest, surrounded by her loving family.
-Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Murnal Read and Verna Evans Read. She was also predeceased by a brother, Donald, in 1993, and her beloved and loyal dog, Duke.
-Lois will be remembered by all for her vivacious personality. With her love of bright colors, glitter, and sequins, she was always the best-dressed person in any group, and loved to laugh and share funny stories with her family.
-Lois was a hard worker: her first job was with Kresge's department store, where she was eventually promoted to the head-cashier's position. She later worked in a number of family businesses in the Pittston/Moosic area before landing her dream job: working with young students in Wilkes University's Registrar's Office, where she worked until her retirement in 1987.
-Lois was also very proud of her service as Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack #33 and her work as a Red Cross volunteer.
-Lois was deeply rooted in her faith and a longtime member of the Church on the Green in Sun City West, AZ, prior to her relocation to Coeur d'Alene. She spent many hours cooking and serving community meals to those in need in Sun City West. Her family rests in the knowledge that she is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
-Surviving is her loving husband of 70 years, Charles Abate, and sons Charles (Christine) of Syracuse, NY; Joseph (Kathi), of Coeur d'Alene, ID; Richard (Cora), of Dallas, PA; and Murnal (Elizabeth) of Montrose, PA, as well as grandchildren Roberta, Sarah-Jane, Joseph, Alexandra, Richard, and great-grandchildren PJ and Om.
-Memorial services will be at 4 PM Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. 4th St, Coeur d'Alene, following a private family visitation from 3-4 PM.
