Henry A. "Hank" Janowicz 84, of Elyria passed away Tuesday April 23, 2019 at home following a long illness. He was born December 31, 1934 in Elyria.

Hank was a sales agent for Prudential Insurance Company retiring in 1989 following twenty five years of service. Prior to that he had worked for The Elyria Chronicle Telegram for eleven years as a printer. Hank was a 1953 Elyria High School graduate. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and formerly a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he was active in The Holy Name Society, and a member of The Elyria United Polish Club for over sixty five years. Hank was a member of the Northern Ohio Officials Association for twenty five years; holding offices of President, Vice President and Executive Board member, a rules interpreter and mechanics instructor.

He was also a member of the Ohio Association of Basketball Officials. Hank officiated college basketball for twenty years, high school Football and Basketball for twenty five years, and retired after the 1984-1985 season. Hank was inducted into the Lorain County Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1988, the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, and to the N.O.O.A. Hall of Fame in 2004.

He was an excellent cook, and loved being in the kitchen, preparing special daily meals. Hank and his wife were avid moviegoers, but even more so enjoyed traveling. Two outstanding and memorable trips were to Poland and England; a heritage trip for each of them. Favorite cities to visit in the U.S. were San Francisco, Washington D.C., and New York City. They visited New York City in the fall of 2016 for their sixty first wedding anniversary, and traveled to Washington D.C. this past fall for their sixty third anniversary.

Survivors include his high school sweetheart, now wife of sixty three years; Betty Lou (nee: Baum), four daughters; Janine Glomb (Daniel) of Massillon, OH., Paula Janowicz Berry of Plain City, OH., Sarah Long (Randal) of Oviedo, FL, Anna Janowicz of Dublin, OH, a son; Andrew Janowicz of Lakeland, TN, grandchildren; Philip Janowicz, Katie Graves, Braden Long, great grandchildren; Andrew and Emma Graves, numerous nieces and nephews.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; Felix and Veronica (nee: Mujwit) Janowicz, two sisters; Ida Vavzincak (Bennie), and Mary Urig (Glenn), and six brothers; John, Edward, Frank, Ben "Smoke", Joseph, and Victor.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 25, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church 611 Lake Ave. Elyria where the family will receive friends. Reverend Father Albert Veigas, Pastor will be the Celebrant.

Burial will be private at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Hank's memory be sent to Hospice of The Western Reserve 2173 North Ridge Rd. Suite H, Lorain, OH 44055.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria.
