Mary's Obituary

Mary McCormack, 85, of Lemons, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, April 26, 2019.

Mary Jane (Lemen) McCormack was born in Lemons, MO, on November 24, 1933, the daughter of Ura and Flossie (Means) Lemen, who preceded her in death. She was raised and attended school in Lemons and graduated from Unionville High School in 1951.

Mary was united in marriage to Eldon McCormack in Pollock, MO, on February 15, 1952, and he preceded her in death on August 25, 1997. Mary and Eldon lived in Claycomo, MO, for about five years before moving back to Putnam County where they made their home for the remainder of their married life. Mary stayed at home while her children were growing. She liked to garden and raise flowers as well as cook and can the produce from her garden. She sewed clothing for her children and liked to quilt and crochet. Her favorite thing to do was mow her lawn and various other lawns to keep Lemons looking nice. She could be seen riding around on her mower checking things out.

Mary worked as a home healthcare aide for several years with Leawood Home Healthcare after the children left home. She also ran the Lake Thunderhead Marina Restaurant for a number of years. She served as the collector for Wilson Township and as secretary for the Lemons Fire Department. Mary also helped Tamara Sewell-Brown in her retirement years at the State Farm Insurance agency in Unionville. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Pollock Church of Christ.

Mary is survived by her four children: Marsha (Fred) Richardson and Dwaine (Paula) McCormack of Unionville, MO; Julie Maring of Corydon, IA; and Patti McCormack (Kevin Alexander) of Milan, MO. Eleven grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren survive as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren Lemen and Baxter Lemen, and two sisters, June Potter and Margaret Perkins.
Funeral services for Mary McCormack will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 29, 2019, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lemons Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Lemons Cemetery or Lemons American Legion Building and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
