John was the eighth of twelve children born to Joseph Jacob Bieth and Babette Troxler.

You can tell by the picture how cute he was. You can’t see that he was about 5’10, with brown hair and green eyes. I include that because the military records are incorrect. They show him shorter and blue eyed.

He was only six, when his father died in a car accident. His mother had to care for 12 children under 15 and run the dairy farm. She had her hands full. The kids took advantage of the situation and stayed in trouble.

At age 19, John enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was based in England, taking photos from planes.

After the war he attended Sacramento City College where he played football. He made all state, as a full back.

He married Helen Joyce Waltermire in 1948. She had a four-year-old son, by a prior relationship, who John considered HIS son. They had two more sons in 1949 and 1952.

John was a very easy-going man, sometime too much so. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping and eating odoriferous cheese. Also, he would yodel, when he thought he was alone.

He worked at the Sacramento Army Depot, in electronics, for at least 20 years.

Most of his adult life was plagued with heart problems. But he was tough. He stopped smoking after the first heart surgery and pushed through until his death at age 80, truly amazing.
