Robert W. “Bob” Ambrose, 74, of Pana, passed away April 30, 2019 in McLean County Nursing Home, Normal, Illinois after a long struggle with obstructive pulmonary disease.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, 308 East Second Street, Pana, IL. There will be no graveside service.

Bob was born January 15, 1945 in Pana, the son of Andrew M. “Andy” and Mildred E. (White) Ambrose. He graduated from Pana High School in 1962, and lived much of his life in the Pana and Taylorville areas. He married Lynda Wiley on March 3rd, 1962, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pana.

Bob was a rubber worker most of his working life and retired from Firestone in 2001. He loved fishing and was an enthusiastic mushroom hunter, and a better than average cook. He also enjoyed hunting deer on property he owned for many years outside of Taylorville with his second wife, Dixie McCleave (later they divorced). Bob was also of the Lutheran faith, and although attendance may have been spotty he was always a believer.

Bob is survived by his three children, Angel Ambrose Buchberger and her husband, Tony, Normal, IL; Robert Ambrose and wife, Judy, Cumming, GA; and Gayle Hanlin, LeRoy, IL; grandchildren: Jorgia, Allison, Megan, Brett, Matt, Gabrielle, Mackenzie, Addison, Caden, and Anna; and great-grandchildren Clara and Maeve. He is also survived by his older brother Ronald “Ron” Ambrose of Tower Hill, IL, younger sister Andrea “Dee” Ambrose of Pana, IL and sister-in-law Judy Ambrose also of Pana; and second former wife, Dixie McCleave of Huntersville, NC. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, by his older brother James “Jim” Ambrose and first wife Lynda (Wiley) Ambrose.

Memorials in honor of Bob, may be made to the PCH Transport Service (formerly Faith in Action: same great mission, different name), 101 E. 9th St, Pana, IL 62557. PCH Transportation Service was invaluable to Bob and our family. They went above and beyond to provide service, which allowed Bob to continue to live independently for an extended season. Memorials may also be made to Christian County Animal Control, 300 S. Baughman Rd., Taylorville, IL 62568. Bob loved animals, especially his dogs. He would be honored to help more four legged creatures. Christian County Animal Control has rehomed about 160 dogs and 190 cats in the last year.
