October 12, 1951 obituary. Mrs. Bertha E. Abbott, 77, widow of Charles H. Abbott, died Thursday in a local nursing home after a brief illness. Mrs. Abbott had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Earle J. Allen, 23 Haskell Street, Westbrook, since the death of her husband. She previously lived in Portland for 30 years. Mrs. Abbott was born in North Cutler, April 4, 1874, daughter of William and Evelyn Ramsdell Bryant. She was educated in Cutler schools and formerly lived in Pittsfield, Mass., before coming to Portland. She leaves two other daughters, Mrs. John Plummer, Dover-Foxcroft, and Miss Josephine Abbott, Westbrook; a son, Volhey Abbott, New York City; a brother, William Bryant, North Cutler; a sister, Mrs. Louise Hartley, Portland; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at 749 Congress Street. Interment will be in Forest City Cemetery.
