PORTLAND, OR (February 14, 2019) – Carol Sands, widow of Covenant pastor Dewey Sands, died Wednesday, February 6. She was 84.
Carol was born August 5, 1934, in Portland to Dan and LaVerne H. (Rumbaugh) Nelson.
She married Dewey on August 4, 1982. They served Covenant churches in Providence, Rhode Island, and Moline, Illinois.
Survivors include a daughter, Inga Johnson; two sons, Mons Johnson and Daniel (Deborah) Johnson; step-daughter, Evelyn (Ricco) Hackney; step-son, Stephen (Suzie) Sands; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, and a step-daughter, Joyce Bell.
Burial was Monday, February 11, at Rose City Cemetery in Portland. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, at First Covenant Church in Portland.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Bread for the World, Habitat for Humanity, Medical Teams International, Mercy Corps, North Park University, Oregon Food Bank, Southern Poverty Law Center, or World Vision.
