Jo was predeceased by siblings and their spouses: Marvin Bell (Nevada), Mae Roberts (Willie), Ruby McClelland (Leon), Roy Bell (Allie), Travis Bell, Wyley Bell (Lucille), Oscar Bell (Lavauna), Netherae Peyton (Bill), Irene Smith (Homer) and David Bell, Jr.
Jo was well known in Savannah for years as a talented and creative seamstress, a trait also possessed by her mother. From a wedding gown to the finest tailored suit, and including dance costumes for Marylin Youmans and majorette uniforms, her creative talents were appreciated among her clients, who on any given Sunday night would call and ask her to take a look at a dress that someone was wearing on the Ed Sullivan Show. She would sketch and copy to perfection.
The past thirty years were devoted to the care of son Jerry Marvin Deal after a 1983 automobile accident. Jo is survived by daughter and genealogist, Sherry Elizabeth Deal Jones (late Roland B. Jones), and sons, "C.B." Connie Bruce Deal (June Daughtry) and Jerry Marvin Deal; six grandchildren, Gary R. Jones (Debbie), Pamela J. Stewart (John), Glenn A. Jones (Sandy), Connie Selter (Jeff), Debbie Bowers, and Becki Burke; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Daisy Louise Bennett Bell (late David, Jr.) Beard (late Glenn) and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was much loved by family and friends. She is buried in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah next to her husband, Bruce.
