Richard "Higgs" J. Higginbotham, lifelong Grand Rapids resident, age 69, passed away May 8, 2019 at Grand Itasca Hospital.

In 1970, he was married to Jody Hane and had two children, Shawn C. Higginbotham and Samantha E. (Chad) LeSarge. His children gave Richard three grandchildren: Christian Higginbotham, Lily Higginbotham, and Mychal LeSarge. Richard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also a NASCAR fan and music lover. In 2001, he was engaged to Susan Kirchner and they enjoyed traveling together.

Richard was a local business owner; co-owning Ted's Broaster with his mother Betty Higginbotham, Energy Efficient Builders, with his lifelong friend Ronald Hafar, and retired from Pagel Gun Works in 2014.

He is preceded in death by his parents: mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Higginbotham and father, Theodore "Ted" Higginbotham; and fiancée, Susan Kirchner mid:54766810 . He is survived by his children and grandchildren.

A Gathering of Family and Friends to celebrate his life will be held on Richard's birthday, May 28, 2019 when he would have turned 70 years old, at Rowe Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
