m. Robert McBeath
When Robert McBeath returned home to Sutherland he was given a hero’s welcome. The people of Sutherland treated him like a lord and presented him with a silver tea service. He renewed his love affair with Barbara MacKay, the daughter of John and Williamina Morrison MacKay. They were married in Edinburgh on February 19, 1918.

Robert was awarded a farm as promised by the duke, but it was not for him. Seeking more adventure, he sold the farm and emigrated with Barbara to Vancouver. He joined the British Columbia Provincial Police, and then several months later, the Vancouver Police Department. After his death, Barbara was homesick and moved back to Scotland. She remarried and died childless in her mid-40s as Mrs. Alec MacDonald. She is buried in Scourie, Sutherlandshire.

Williamina Morrison married John McKay 19 Aug 1897 at Fraserburgh. John was drowned at Kinlochbervie on 30 March 1900, leaving her with 2 x children, John, born 29 Sep 1897 and Barbara born 20 June 1899. They then lived at Drumnaguie, Kinlochbervie.

Williamina then married a Hugh McKay on 27 Nov 1908 and sometime later moved to Badcall, Scourie.

John Morrison, born 1835, married Georgina MacDonald, born 1845, on 10 Jun 1874.
Had 2 x known children, Williamina born 23 Mar 1878 at Kinlochbervie, Chirsty died in infancy, born 1 May 1877 and died the same year on Christmas day.
John Morrison died on 2 Sep 1877 aged 42 and Georgina died 31 Jan 1908 age 63.

Sixteen Victoria Crosses have gone on public display for the first time. They were awarded soldiers from across Scotland and England who served with Highlands regiments between 1857 and 1917. Until now, replicas of the 16 medals have been on display at The Highlanders' Museum at Fort George near Ardersier. One of the Victoria Crosses was won by Sergeant Robert Gordon McBeath VC.
