LEONA A. HANES
(1918 - 2012)

Leona A. Hanes, age 93, longtime resident of Two Rivers, died early Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012 at the Hamilton Care Center, Two Rivers.

Leona was born September 21, 1918 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Pagel) Birr. She attended schools in Two Rivers, graduating from Washington High School with the class of 1936. On May 11, 1940, she married Claude B. Hanes in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1996. Leona was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Two Rivers; a former member of the Two Rivers Eagles Club; and she enjoyed many years of camping with her family & friends.

She is survived by her seven children: Floyd Hanes, Judy Gretz, Linda (Jim) Sand, Claudia "Corky" (Dale) Gordon, Russell Hanes & special friend, Sue Romdenne, all of Two Rivers; Kay (Malcolm) Peroutka, Mishicot; and Gloria (Tom) Duenkel, Reedsville; 23 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Hilary Gretz; and two brothers & sisters-in-law, Alfred (Cele) Birr, and Willard (Mary) Birr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3234 Mishicot Rd. Two Rivers. Rev. William Kilps will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, June 8, 2012. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.

Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 - 18th St. Two Rivers is assisting the Hanes family with funeral arrangements.

Leona's family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Hamilton Care Center for the exceptional care given to our mother over the past three weeks.
