McClellan Anton “Mac” Waeger was born on March 9, 1930 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and was called home to his Father in Heaven on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Mac, the younger of two children of John Anton “Tony” and Frances Ione Monroe Waeger

He grew up in Sarcoxie, MO and graduated from High School in 1948. Upon graduation, Mac enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably as a Sonarman on the USS Eugene Greene as it patrolled the North Atlantic during the Cold War era of post World War II and prior to the Korean Conflict. Mac was Honorably Discharged from the Navy and literally walked across the street and re-enlisted with the United States Air Force. Mac served his tour of duty in the Air Force as a Radar Operator at a Strategic Air Command base in French Morocco as a Tech Sergeant. Mac remained in the Air Force Reserve until 1959. Upon Discharge from the Air Force, Mac returned to Missouri and enrolled in Joplin Junior College while working as an ambulance driver for Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. It was in Joplin that Mac met and later married Tedra Ann Smith in 1953.

Mac continued his education at the University of Missouri and eventually graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, utilizing the GI Bill. Upon graduation, Mac began his long-tenured career in the aerospace industry with Rocketdyne Corporation in Neosho, MO as a Contract Administrator as the United States rocketed full force into the Space Age. Mac later accepted a promotion and transferred to Rocketdyne’s parent company, North American Aviation, and moved his family to Tulsa, OK in 1963. It was in Tulsa that he would finish his 30+ year career and retire from Rockwell International.

Mac and Tedra raised three sons, Sheldon, Kyle and Derek and was very active in their Little League baseball, youth football and track careers as a Coach and volunteer. Mac served as President of the Byrd Jr. High Athletic Association and was a board member of the Tulsa Junior Athletic Association. First and foremost, Mac was a loving and devoted husband to Tedra for nearly 50 years of marriage, later becoming her full time 24/7 caregiver during her final years. He was truly endeared to and practiced “in sickness and in health”. Mac was a true American Patriot and proud Veteran, flying the American Flag wherever he lived, even in his final days at Clarehouse. He proudly wore his Navy and Air Force hats, patches, and jackets and rode in several Tulsa Veterans Day Parades. He was a true American Hero to the core. Mac was a loving Father, “Grandpa” and “Great Grandpa” to 10 Great Grandchildren who love and adored him.

He was also a loving Surrogate Grandfather his longtime co-worker, Dacia Bird and her 4 children, as he adopted her as the “Daughter he never had”. His sense of humor was one of a kind and was a trademark of his personality. He loved the Holidays and especially Halloween, often decorating his house and dressing up in costume to scare the young North Tulsa trick or treaters. He loved his animals and especially his last companion, Emma. He was a devoted Tulsa Golden Hurricane Football fan and supporter until failing health kept him from attending games in his final season of life. He enjoyed his Wednesday fellowship at Ike’s Chili with his Rockwell retiree buddies, sitting at their designated table telling stories and reminiscing. Our hearts are saddened and Mac’s presence will be truly missed, but knowing that he sits at the foot of our Almighty Father and that he has been reunited with all of the loved ones and friends that have gone before him is a pleasant and comforting relief to our grief. His memory will continue to shine and his legacy is well ingrained in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mac is proceeded in death by his Father, John Anton Waeger, Mother Frances Ione Cox, older Sister Shirley Williams, Wife Tedra Ann Waeger and Son Derek Martin Waeger.
