TOMMIE MELVIN RAND SR. was the son of Fleming Edgar Rand and Mrs. Cynthia (Dean) Rand.

He served as a Private in the U.S. Army during World War II {Serial Number 38302275}.

He was the husband of Mrs. Gussie Steward Rand.

"Funeral services for Tommie Melvin "Mel" Rand Sr., 73, of Route 3, Jefferson, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove Church Of Christ, in Jefferson, with Bro. Robert Moore and Bro. Claude Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Rand Cemetery with arrangements by Lewis & Walker Funeral Home. Mr. Rand died Saturday, February 18, 1984, in Veteran's Administration Hospital, in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a long illness. Born March 4, 1910, in Jefferson, he was a lifelong resident, the son of Edgar Rand and Cynthia Dean Rand. He received his education in Marion County public schools. Mr. Rand served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Thiokol Corporation, in Karnack, until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Church Of Christ and Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Gussie Rand, of Jefferson; three sons, Tommie Melvin Rand Jr., of Lufkin, Clifford Rand, of Houston, and Kenneth Rand, of Jefferson; four daughters, Alva Wright, of Duncanville, Norma Jeffery and Verna Burks, both of Houston, and Darlene McCray, of Colorado Springs; a brother, William Rand, of Houston; his mother-in-law, Carrie Yancy, of Jefferson; 25 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A son, Charles E. Rand Sr., preceded him in death in 1983. The family will receive visitors from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the funeral home."
