McElhaney, Frank G. 91, entered eternal life on July 14, 2017, joining his son, David. He was born on November 20, 1925 in Kansas City, MO, to Frank J. and Mabel (Slutz) McElhaney. Frank grew up in Penalosa, KS on a farm, and he maintained many friendships from the area over the years. He was drafted at the age of 17 into the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during WW II. After retiring from the war, Frank was employed at Mayo Sash and Door in Wichita where he met his beloved wife, Ione. He retired from Derby Refinery as a pipe insulator. This year Frank and Ione celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. As a young man, Frank raced cars at C.J. Racetrack in Wichita. Frank was very active in Boy Scout Troop 704 for many years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his years of service. Together, Frank and Ione were active in many organizations in Wichita, such as Camping Squares, ACAP Travel Group and Meals On Wheels. Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, was quick with a smile and a joke. He never met a stranger and was a faithful, loyal friend to all. Frank was an active member of Westwood Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Survivors: wife, Ione of Wichita; daughters, Mary Daratt of Wichita, Cherlyn Mann of Seabrook, TX; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life Service, 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 8007 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67209. Memorials to Boy Scout Troop 704 or to the church.
