Edward immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1847. After moving to Chicago he met Laura Howe and the two were wed in 1858. The couple had five children: Margaret, Elizabeth Jane, Katherine, Mary Agnes, and John. Elizabeth Jane married Edward F. Dunne in 1881 and in the Kelly's old age, Edward and Laura moved in with the Dunnes on Beacon Street were they both passed in the early 20th century.

Edward F. Kelly purchased this plot on 16 October 1865; the majority of those interred here are relations of Edward Fitzsimmons Dunne.
