Born Sep 1, 1899 at Carrolls, he was raised in this area and was employed by the Long-Bell Lumber Company for 42 years. He started with the Columbia River Mercantile in 1922 in the grocery store, then was a truck driver, a timekeeper, and from 1925-1947, a PBI inspector.
Mr. Poland became foreman of the east mill in 1947, then became cutting foreman and in 1960 went to the wholesale division where he remained until retirement in 1964. He was a US Army Veteran of WW1.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, at home; two daughters Mrs. Craig (Alexandra)Moore of Longview, and Mrs. Charles S. (Susan) Paskerian of Newport Beach, Calif; four grandchildren: John and Andrew Moore of Longview and Mathew and Michael Paskerian of Newport Beach; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Byrdee) Watson of Kelso and Mrs. Harry (Jean) Churchill of Puyallup.
