Wilbur was a diabetic and lost his father when he was a teenager. He had an illustrious career in the U. S. Marine Corps.
When Wilbur married Marge, he adopted her daughter Marlene Lillian who later married a Marine while Wilbur was stationed in San Diego, California, USA.
Wilbur and Marge enjoyed active involvement in the Masons which later benefited a grandson who contracted polio at 2 years old; the Shriners provided him with multiple needed surgeries.
Wilbur's active duty during WWII included serving as a Chief Warrant Officer and attending the surrender of the Japanese in Tokyo Bay, aboard the USS Missouri. Wilbur reached the rank of Lt. Colonel before retiring.
