Afton was born to Byron C. Telford and Winona Barnes Telford in Idaho Falls, ID on March 16, 1924. She grew up and went to school in Idaho Falls. Afton married Lyman Garfield Ball in 1943, and had four children, living in Great Falls, MT before relocating to Long Beach, CA. Afton and Gar moved to Pocatello, ID where she lived until 2015, before returning home to Idaho Falls.
Afton was very active in the LDS church, holding many leadership positions including guide scouts, primary, mutual and relief society. Service was very important to her, both in the church and her community, where she enjoyed helping neighbors and participating in the literary club. In 1992, she served a 1-year mission with her husband in San Bernardino, CA.
Afton loved her family dearly. She was known for her great cooking, fashion sense, entertaining events, and thoughtful guidance. She valued fairness, hard work, and humility. Her last sentiment to her grandchildren was for them to be happy and make the world a better place. Afton made friends easily and everybody loved her.
She is survived by her sisters: Maxine Beckstead, Joann (Jack) Stone, and Harriet (Dale) Woolley; sister-in-law, Diane Telford; her daughter, Linda (Joe); son, John (Diane); daughter-in-law, Nancy; 16 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and 45+ great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyman Garfield Ball; brothers: Max and Keith; son, Gary; daughter, Judy; and grandsons: Derek and Nathan.
There will be a viewing Thursday, May 23, 2019, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 1st Street, Idaho Falls. Graveside services will be Friday, May 24th at 11 a.m., at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, 4600 S Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls.
