Lyda Dalzell Cooke, 78, silent film star and widow of Bennett Wellington Cooke, Passed away March 28 in Delray Beach FL. Mrs. Cooke Starred for Essannay Studios in Chicago under her maiden name, Lydia St. Clair Dalzell. In 1917, along with Bryant Washburn and Hazel Daly, she played the American art student in “Filling His Own Shoes.” Her husband, with his father and two brothers, founded the Coyne Electrical School in the early 1900’s, one of the first Chicago trade schools. Mr. Cooke served as president of the school from 1919 until his death in 1956. Their sons ran the school from 1956 until it was sold in 1969. Mrs. Cooke, of Delray Beach and Northbrook, was a member of Exmoor Country Club and the Peacock Camp for Crippled Children charity. She is survived by three children, Bennett, Jr., Peter, and Mrs. Ramona Gatewood; a sister, Ramona Janotta; and ten grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in Delray Beach. Memorial services for Mrs. Cooke in Chicago will be held in the near future. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery.
