Rose M. Culbertson, 70, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Dubuque, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice House of Palm Bay, Fla.

A private family service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Rose’s memory.

Rose was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Rose especially loved her role as “Maga,” as her grandchildren called her. She had a vivacious personality and always made everyone around her smile. She made friends everywhere she went and her customers at the Office Grille loved her as well. She also worked at The Finley Hospital in the kitchen and her million dollar smile made all the difference to the patients and customers. Rose lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family. Sadly, Rose suffered from a very cruel disease that was recently diagnosed. Her health was declining fast towards the end of the disease as the Neurologist said it would. Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). It is a “young age” dementia that affects people ages 45-65. Looking back, we started seeing changes around the age 62 for Rose. Recently, Rose made the decision to relocate to Florida to live with her daughter and daughter-in-law to provide the 24/7 care she required. She was the rock that held our family together. There are so many people that loved and cared about Rose. She will be missed dearly by so many.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee (Holly) Culbertson, of Palm Bay, Fla.; a son, Michael Culbertson, of Dubuque; grandchildren, Joshua (Brian) Lampman, Justin (Kylie Davis) Hoag, Averee Culbertson, Isla Culbertson and Noa Culbertson, all of Dubuque, and Brandon Culbertson, of Palm Bay, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Sickels; her mother, Phyliss Sickels; a brother, Daniel Sickels; and a grandson, Jaydon Culbertson.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to Health First Hospice of Palm Bay, Fla.
