Ludwig came to the US in 1913 with his brother, Fred. He was first married to Emilie Dreger, who died 1913, leaving young son, Fredrick. Her sister, Caroline, then cared for Fredrick and brought him to America in 1914, at which time she married Ludwig. Ship manifests were found at the Ellis Island web site.
