Doris was born in Marshall County, Iowa, on July 7, 1922, the daughter of Philip and Minnie (Griebel) Bach. She attended country school as a child attended Baxter High School graduating with the Class of 1940.
Following school, she attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Doris taught in various country school houses for four years. She married Virgil Saak on August 29, 1945.
The couple farmed until 1988 when they moved into Baxter. They did everything together including traveling, camping, and visiting the Iowa State Fair 68 times together.
Doris was an avid quilter, sewer, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a member at Bethany United Church of Christ, the Jasper County Historical Society, and the Jasper County Sheep Producers.
Survivors include her son Wayne Saak, grandchildren Aaron and Jenn, best friend Ruth Miller, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, daughter-in-law JuliAnn Saak, and brother Robert Bach.
