A former Ephrata resident, Mrs. Borck died Saturday, Oct 15, in Moses Lake.
Born July 2, 1925, to William Henry Yarwood and Theresa Himmelspach Yarwood of Mohler, she attended high school in Harrington and married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Borck, after he completed service with the US Marine Corps on Feb 15, 1947.
The couple moved to Ritzville, where he worked as a sheriff’s deputy and they operated a motel. In 1951, they moved to Florence, MT, and to Ephrata in 1953. She volunteered with the North Central Washington Camp Fire Girls program for several years and was awarded the highest honor of the Gulick Award. She was active in Epsilon Sigma Alpha for more than 50 years, Daughters of the American Revolution and Lady Elks, participating in many community service projects. From 1971-1989, they owned the Ephrata Speedway. She also worked for a local physician and attorneys.
Following the footsteps of her grandfather, who was elected Lincoln County clerk in 1898, she became active in the Republican Party, serving as a state committeewoman from 1965-70, a delegate alternate to the 1968 national convention, a county chairwoman in 1971-72, and a member of the Electoral College for the 1972 presidential election.
A daughter, Susan Sperline, two brothers, Elsworth ‘Pete’ Yarwood and Charles ‘Dutch’ Yarwood, and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Yarwood and Wilma (Billie) Baker, preceded her in death. Besides her husband, she leaves a sister, Anna J Berg of Seattle; a daughter, Gretchen Borck of Ritzville; a son, Phil (and Linda) Borck of Ephrata; a granddaughter, Sara (and David) Tempel; and grandson, Andrew Borck."
