Elliot P. Frost


ROCKPORT - Elliot Putnam Frost, 78, a charter member of the Rockport Golf Club and the Sandy Bay Yacht Club, died Monday at the Addison Gilbert Hospital.

[Illegible] ... S. Frost of Land's End and the son of George Franklin and Hannah (Lincoln) Frost of Waltham and Rockport who were among the earliest summer residents of Land's End.

He attended the Waltham public schools and graduated from Yale University in 1911 where he was captain of the Yale crew. He was an associate of the Washburn, Frost & Co. investment securities of Boston for many years, retiring in 1932.

He was a veteran of World Wars I and II. In the first World War he served as a first lieutenant in the 301st tank battalion awarded the British Military Cross by King George IV of England, one of the first American Army soldiers to receive such an award for gallantry in action.

In World War II he served in the Coast Guard as a chief boatswain's mate with duty on the cutter Tuckahoe in the Gulf of Mexico.

He was also a member of the Eastern Point Yacht Club, Psi Epsilon fraternity and the Elihu Club of Yale.

He is survived by his wife two sons, John Elliott of Tucson, Arizona, and Richard Gray of Gilroy, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy McCarthy, also of Gilroy, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, Miss H. Louise Frost of Rockport and Florida; a brother, Donald F. of Rockport, several nieces and nephews and several great and great, great nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service, but a memorial service will be held in Rockport later. Following cremation and also at his request, his ashes will be scattered over the ocean off Rockport.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Essex County Health Association, 222 Cabot St., Beverly.

Funeral arrangements are by the Pike Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester.
