Death from Exposure.

The death from exposure of an old man named Lyman Clothier, eighty-five years of age, who has for some years been a resident of South Rockford, caused quite a ripple in the unusual calm that prevailed throughout our city after election. It appears that Clothier, who has been in the habit of peddling pins, needles, etc., was subject to aberation of the mind, and while thus afflicted would start off on a walking expedition into the country. On Wednesday, he was seen near Charles Bartholomew's farm, situated one mile from town on the Kiswaukee road; he stated to a man named Hyde that it was his intention to proceed to New Milford. Hyde gave him a lift in his wagon, but when he left the wagon he must have retraced his steps, for his body was found next morning in a ditch in front of Bartholomew's farm. On Thursday an inquest was held upon the body and the jury returned the following verdict: "Died from inform old age and exposure to cold and rain." --- The remains of the poor old man were taken to their last resting place on Sunday, and he was buried with the usual Masonic ceremony, which is, perhaps, the most impressive of all forms of interment. There was a very large number of persons in attendance.

On Thursday morning last, about six o'clock, a man by the name of Lyman Clothier, was found dead about one and one-half miles South of this city, Mr. Clothier is a man about 84 years of age, and his mind has been somewhat effected for some time. He started on Wednesday, as near as could be ascertained, to visit his brother, who lives in New Milford, and h ad got but a short distance outside of the city limits when night overtook him. There was a terrible storm raging, and the night being very dark, no one saw him, and the poor old man laid there all night, from the effects of which he died. As soon as his body was discovered on Thursday morning, he was taken under shelter, and the Coroner notified. After an examination, a verdict was rendered that deceased came to his death from the effects of old age and exposure.
