Robin Leo Beard, Sr. was the son of Earlie May Harlan and William Brittan Beard.
Mr. Beard was born in Hohenwald, Tennessee where his father served as the first mayor. His family moved to Dickson, Tennessee when he was a child, and he was educated in Dickson and Nashville public schools, graduating from Hume-Fogg High School in Nashville.
Mr. Beard was an account executive at Alexander and Alexander, Inc. an insurance and bond firm since 1974.
Prior to that he was a salesman and later Tennessee resident manager for Employees Insurance of Wausaw, and before 1942 was an engineer and assistant superintendent for the U. S. Forest Service.
He was a charter member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church and had served as superintendent of the Sunday school for several years, as both vice chairman and chairman of the church board and as president of the John Wesley class.
A member of Phoenix Lodge 131, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Al Menah Shrine Temple and Elks Lodge #72.
Robin married Dorothy Rochelle Damon in 1935, and to this union three children were born, former U.S. Congressman Robin Leo Beard, Jr. (1939), William Damon Beard (1943) and Rochelle Beard Barthel (1949). Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
