13th Calvary Regiment

During Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus, NM on March 9, 1916, Private Thomas Butler "was hit, but he disregarded the wound and kept working the bolt of his rifle. He was hit again during another brief dash toward the bank, and the men flopped back to earth"...Sgt. Michael Fody reported of Pvt. Butler "We made four stands in 500 yards, and Butler would not give up and went on with us until he had been hit five distinct times, the last wound proving fatal..."
