She was born July, 1868 in Ohio. Ellen was only six years old when her father passed away. She married Aaron Oda when she was twenty-one years old in 1890. They moved to Hartford City, Blackford County, Indiana, where her husband got a job working for the Mercer Lumber Company. They were the parents of two children, Edith and Luther. They were active members of the Brethren Church. At one time Ellen worked as the church custodian. Some time before 1920 they moved to Bluffton in Harrison County. Their daughter, Edith Canter, was living with them with her young daughter, Rosellen. Edith was working as a bookkeeper in a doctor's office. By 1930, Aaron and Ellen were living in Huntington in Huntington County.
