Obituary from the Bay City Times (Bay City, Bay County, Michigan, USA) on Sunday, September 5, 2004:

Deceased Name: Joan V. Parent

Parent, Joan V. Bay City, Michigan Jo slipped quietly through Heavens Gate with the family she loved more than anything by her side. Rejoicing and reuniting with the love of her life Kenneth and Baby Carol Ann, father Charlie, brother Sonny and sister Carol. Celebrating her life and carrying on her legacy is family: Laurie & Jim, Brandi & Jeri, Birdie & Bee, Becke & Jason, Little Bear, Pot Pie & Addy Mae. Linny & Roon, Betsy, Blakster & Baily Boo, Brooke, Pat & Zaneman. Her dear friend and true sister Betty Parent. And blessedly Betsy, LuLu, Patti, Mikie, Carl, Delyn & Chad who gave us pearls of wisdom, shoulders to cry on, laughter, nourishment and unconditional love - we thank you - we love you! Dearest Mummie - The only reassurance I have at this moment, is that while your presence has been taken from me, I still see you - its your hands I see as Bran does your favorite chore. She folds and presses with the same precision and happiness she learned 'helping' you from the time she was tiny. In Beck's kitchen where nurturing, soul searching, creativity and love is expressed through food. Heredity obviously, because the only recipe you followed was the one for love. In Betsy's smile, so like yours her wonderful laugh and quick wit. Like you she is fiercely loyal, generous and fair. In Brook's nature, her ability to smell the roses and keep the peace. She like you seems forever patient and kindhearted. In Jim's friendship, watching the two of you all these years, I've learned that true friendship is unconditional, unspoken, has its flaws, but never hurts and that the true spirit of friendship is binding and can't be broken by time or distance. Lastly Mummie, I'll see you in the mirror. A reflection of all your life lessons. You taught me to work hard, and to be thankful for the ability to do so! That boxes were made to hold objects - not thoughts or dreams. To be a caretaker in hopes that what goes around truly comes around! That won't is acceptable - can't isn't! The hardest lesson is the one I'm still working on... 'It's O.K. To Let Go.' I'll Be Seeing You- I Love You! And I Adore You! According to Jo's wishes cremation and a private memorial service has already taken place. Those wishing to honor her life, and love children big & small may make a donation to St. Judes Childrens Hospital in Jo's name. Envelopes for St. Judes are available at the Gephart Funeral Home.
