"Member of Pioneer Oil Family Dies - Mrs Church Was Active in Local Affairs - Mrs Mary Patterson Church, 88, of 217 W Walnut St, died at 9:30 pm Thursday in Titusville Hospital where she had been a patient for the past four days. Active in church and school organizations, Mrs Churhc was instrumental in setting up the first kindergarten in Titusville, and contributed to its maintenance. She was a charter member of the Titusville Garden Club and was an early member of the Woman's Auxiliary of the YMCA. Mrs Church was active in the St James Episcopal church in her early years and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the YWCA for many years. She was a member of a pioneer oil family in this region, and was the third daughter of Elisha Gilbert and Ellen Tefft Patterson. She was born in Titusville, Nov 23, 1874. 1893 THS Graduate - She was a graduate of Titusville High School, Class of 1893, and resided all her life in Titusville except for the year 1900, which she spent in Japan. She married Charles Rupert Church, Oct 12, 1904, in Titusville. He preceded her in death, Nov 21, 1956. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Laura Church of Indiana, Pa, and Miss Mary Church, executive director of the Titusville YWCA; three sons, Charles R Church, Jr, of Houston, Tex, and Gilbert P Church and Neill Church of Wilmington, Del; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs Samuel Fertig of Santa Barbara, Calif. Mrs Church's youngest son, John F Church, died Sept 9, 1962. Friends will be received at the E A Peterson Funeral Home...[The] funeral service...will be held there at 2:30 pm Saturday. A private committal service for members of the immediate family will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery."
