John retired from a career at Jantzen Swimware as their engineer. After retirement, John and Marge enjoyed annual trips in their R.V. traveling from California to Florida. They spent many months with their friends and family chasing the sun and exploring the national parks. John and Marge spent their summers vacationing the Oregon coast with their granddaughter Nicole. John made friends every where he went. He was genuinely interested in others and loved the opportunity to strike up a conversation. He had a positive outlook on life, was grateful for all his blessings, brought joy to those he interacted with, and loved his family deeply. John lived life to the fullest.
John lived for the past 65 years in his SE Portland home. He spent the final years of his life attending weekly exercise classes, opening the church at 7am to make coffee, assisting his friends with errands, sharing life with his granddaughter, and playing with his great-grandchildren. John was proud to be living independently. He felt blessed to have so many wonderful people in his life. John was a caring man that made an impact on so many people's lives. He will be greatly missed. John is survived by his granddaughter, Nicole, her husband Steve, and great-grandchildren Emma and Noah. John was preceded in death by his wife Marge of 62 years, his son Steve, and his son Tom.
John was a proud member for Gethsemane Lutheran Church for the past 60 years. John's service will be held on Monday, June 10th, 2019 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at 10:00am. Reception will directly follow the service, from there the family will travel to Willamette National Cemetery. John will receive a military honor service at Willamette National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
