Lars Jacobsen, the second of two children born to Marit Olsdatter Randklevsvigen, was born 6 June 1829 on Randklevsvigen (also called Vigen, now Vika, 61.52420, 10.11737) in Ringebu sub-parish, Ringebu parish, Oppland County, Norway. His father was Jacob Larsen, soldier. Lars was baptized at home 7 Jun 1829 and in the Ringebu Church 28 Jun 1829, with baptismal sponsors Hans Krogsveen, Kristen Strandlien, Simen Sørlien, Kari Strandlien, and Kari Eriksdatter Strande. Lars had a half-brother, Ole Andersen, eight years older. Lars was vaccinated 10 Feb 1832, and confirmed at the Ringebu Church 2 Jun 1844.

Lars married Ambjør Christensdatter Seielstadløkken 8 Dec 1853 at the Ringebu Church (she was called Embjør Christensdatter Liahagen on the marriage record), the first marriage for both, with witnesses Nils Midtrøen and Johannes Siklet. Lars and Ambjør had seven children (including the first, who died in infancy), born from 1852 to 1869. They lived on various husmannsplasser (tenant farms) in Ringebu parish.

In 1865, Lars and Ambjør and their children lived together on Godlijordet, nord, in Fåvang sub-parish, Ringebu parish, but Lars and Ambjør separated by 1875. Ambjør and their children remained in Ringebu, while Lars moved to Grytten parish, Møre og Romsdal County (near the city of Åndalsnes on the west coast) by 1875.

In Grytten parish, Lars lived at these locations: (1875) Setnes (a farm bordering the city of Veblungsnes and the Isfjorden), (1891) District 6, household 15, (1900) Arnestuen, (1910) Elselil, and (1912) Vengestuen (62.50313, 7.77066). Lars apparently adopted Randklev as his surname by 1900 (he also used it in 1875). He was listed as married in 1875, single in 1891 (apparently incorrectly), married in 1900 (but living alone), and a widower in 1910. His occupation was farm labor, but he was described as a “huseier” (house-owner) in 1900. Lars died 24 Apr 1912 of infirmities of old age. His funeral was 27 Apr 1912 in the Grytten Church, Veblungsnes, Grytten parish. He was buried in the Grytten Churchyard 3 May 1912.
