Herbert was an outstanding athlete in college in football and baseball. He lettered in football and baseball in 1894, '95, '96 and '97. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity in College. His funeral took place at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Fort Smith with burial at Oak Cemetery.
