Edward L. “Eddie” Abshire, 76, of Bluefield died Wednesday afternoon, November 15, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was lovingly known as “Mr. Ed” by those who cared for him as his health declined. Eddie was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1959. Eddie had retired from GTE in 1993 with nearly 29 years of service and later worked part-time for NAPA Auto Parts in Bluefield for 17 years. He was a faithful member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton, where he served as Deacon, Trustee, & was sound technician for various services for many years.

Born July 3, 1941, in Bluefield, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Abshire (Deceased) & Edna Cornett-Abshire (Deceased).

Survivors include his devoted and caring wife of 54 years, Linda "Jean" Edmonds-Abshire (B. 1944) whom he married on October 4, 1963 in Princeton, Mercer County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Mercer County, WV, 1963, Page 44, Line 40, Application Date: October 4, 1963); son, Stephen Abshire; sister-in-law Jeanie Edmonds of Ladson SC; nephew, Kevin Edmonds & wife Christy Edmonds & their children Corey Edmonds of Atlanta, GA, Chase Edmonds & Chance Edmonds of Verona KY, niece, Karen Edmonds-Mullins & husband Benny Mullins & their children Bethany Mullins & Bennett Mullins of Bluffton SC, and Kerri Edmonds-Bevacqua & husband Dave Bevacqua of Kennett Square PA.

Services of celebration will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 18, 2017 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Dr. John King & Jim Nofsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.
