Edmund "Ned" Minetry Apperson, III, age 79, of Old Cedar Loop, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at his residence following an illness.

Born on Sept. 18, 1926, in Greenville, S.C., a son of the late George Patterson and Mary McAlister Apperson. Mr. Apperson was a U.S. Navy veteran. He attended Sewanee Military Academy, Georgia Tech University and The University of the South Sewanee. Mr. Apperson served honorably in World War II on a PT Boat in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge, he pursued the cotton business and a successful Real Estate career, being instrumental in the development of the McAlistar Square Mall and the Myrtle Square Mall. He loved the Greenville Little Theater, participating in many performances, most notably as Eliza Doolittle's father in "My Fair Lady," for which he won an Oscar.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann K. Apperson; two sons, Edmund M. Apperson, IV and wife, Tiffany of Philadelphia, Pa., and Scott Daniel and wife, Beth of Greenville, S.C.; two daughters, Millie Apperson of Greenville, S.C., and Kim Ford and husband, John of Goldsboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and a brother, George Patterson Apperson, Jr. and wife, Frances of Greenville, S.C.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
