Services for William Stewart Hammons, Sr. will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 2:00 PM at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS.

Mr. Hammons, age 80, died on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at his residence in Greenwood.

He was born on December 12, 1938 in Greenwood, to the late William Ansley and Maurine Wigley Hammons. William was an Eagle Scout, poet, locksmith, and former science teacher. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice Johnson Hammons of Greenwood, MS; daughter, Lisa (Hank) Roberts of North Carrollton, MS; sons, Bill (Tiffany) Hammons and George Hammons of Greenwood, MS; brother, Allan Hammons of Greenwood, MS; sister, Hilda McKibbon of Greenwood, MS; four granddaughters, Mary Ashley Hammons, Katherine Hammons, Ansley Hammons, and Cheyenne Roberts; four grandsons, Andy (Angela) Hammons, William Stewart Hammons III, Patrick Hammons, and Staige Roberts; and two great grandchildren, Bristol Hammons and Elysa Beth Floyd.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. William Pittman will officiate the services. Pallbearers will be Bill Hammons, George Hammons, Hank Roberts, Staige Roberts, Stewart Hammons, and Andy Hammons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allan Hammons, Jabo Ward, Terry McKibbon, and Charles Chatham. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Post No: 29
