Ilona Anvalee Bailey Whitlock, a lifelong resident of Salem, passed away at age 85, on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in Scottsdale, Arizona, A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Paul Vernon Whitlock. She was also predeceased by her parents, A. Perry Bailey and Annie Byrd Bailey; a brother, Wendell Perry Bailey, Sr.; and a sister, Vadna Bailey Kingery. Surviving family include two sons, Kim R. and wife, Rosemary, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Kevin A. and wife, Candice, of Salem; three grandsons, Rodney Lee (Sylvia), of Arlington, Va., Richard Lynn (Martha), of Ottawa, Canada, and Joseph Aarron (Michelle) of Summerfield, N.C.; a nephew, W. Perry Bailey, Jr. of Salem; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband were both 1939 graduates of Andrew Lewis High School. She was also a graduate of National Business College and was a longtime secretary for the City of Salem, working in the City Manager's Office. She was also a charter member of the Sweet Adelines of the Roanoke Valley and enjoyed going to national and international singing competitions. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2007 at Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke, Va. with the Rev. Roy Whitescarver officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 291, Salem, VA 24153. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
