Auto Race Car Driver. Red was born in 1926 to William and Bertha Renner. In late 1944 or early 1945, just before his high school graduation, Marlin "Red" Renner joined the Army Air Corps. After he left the military, he was employed as an auto mechanic by the owner of a Ford automobile dealership in Woodburn, Indiana. He began to drive in area midget auto races, competing from May 1949 through at least October of 1961, racing at least 29 times on tracks from the Anderson Speedway, Dayton Speedway, Winchester Speedway, Motor City Speedway, Indianapolis Raceway Park and others, driving midget sprint cars. The peak of his career was a second place finish at the 1950 Sun Valley Speedway in Anderson Indiana, home of the annual 500-lap "Little 500" race, and a win at the same race in 1951. He continued to race through the 1950s and into the early 1960s, but often failed to qualify for races and never won another race.
