Marjorie was born May 14, 1922, at Blue Rapids, to Charlie E. and Gladys M. (Cummings) Miller. She attended the Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Blue Rapids High School as Class Valedictorian in 1940. In 1941 she married Dennis Brooks who passed away in 1968. Marjorie’s earliest memories are of the great depression and dust storms, visits to old Blue Rapid’s many stores and the people who owned and operated them. Many of those people were family members or friends of the family. Other memories include her one room school house and trips to town for ice cream, cherry cokes and hamburgers. She also remembers returning to Blue Rapids after living in Oakley and Lindsborg for many years and the changes that came over time.
Marjorie was a member of New Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids, the White Way Country Club, Extension Units in Leonardville and Waterville and RSVP Riley County. She loved to cross stitch and crochet, work on crossword puzzles, reading, singing, and watching her K-State sports and Kansas City Royals.
Survivors include her two sons, Darrell (Louanna) Brooks of Manhattan and Lyle (Janice) Brooks of Blue Rapids; four step children, Connie (Dave) Evans of Frankfort; Robert “Mike” (Dalva) Carter of Conway, South Carolina; Randy Carter of Macae, Brazil and Terre (Bev) Carter of Blue Rapids; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and a son-in-law, Robert Livergood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Dennis and Orville; a daughter Sherrill Livergood; an infant grandson; and a brother Wendell Miller.
