Germaine Elizabeth Taylor McKinnies, a servant of God, devoted and loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, was born June 2, 1960 in San Antonio, Texas to Effie Parrish and the late Tommie C. Taylor.

Raised by her grandparents the late James Emma Nichols and Rev. R. A. Nichols Sr. helped Germaine find Christ at an early age. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Prince of Peace Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. She was a devoted member throughout her life.

While attending schools in the San Antonio Independent School District, Germaine found joy in being a member of the "Girl Scouts of America" and playing volleyball. Graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1978, she later returned to academia to receive her Associates degree from St. Philips College.

In 1979 Germaine joined in holy matrimony to Charles W. Bankston, Jr. and to this union a son was born, Eddie. She later remarried to Charles E. McKinnies, Jr. and to this union two daughters were born, Octavia and Ashton. She also opened up her home to Ramon & Ronje Nichols, her cousins, and helped raise them.

Germaine always enjoyed spending time with her family, most of all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her cousin Rozelle A. Nichols and close friend Lola McGarity that she's joining in heaven.

Germaine continued to serve her community through "Girl Scouts of America" and sharing their legacy with her granddaughters. She also supported her grandsons at their sporting events throughout the year. All of them she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her father Tommie C. Taylor; her brother David Wayne Smith; her grandmothers Willie Don Walker, James Emma Nichols; her grandfathers: Lee Andrew Jackson, Rev. R. A. Nichols Sr.; her uncle Arthur "Boy" Walker; three aunts: Marian Henderson, Robbie Thompson, Gloria Nichols

She leaves to cherish her memory a son Eddie (Amanda) Bankston, Sr.; two daughters: Octavia (Paul) McKinnies-Mitchell, Ashton McKinnies; seven grandkids: Eddie Bankston, Jr., Leah Bankston, Jalynn Mitchell, Anya Knotts, Janae Mitchell, Marques Knotts, Jr., Paul "Sonny" Mitchell, Jr.; her mother Effie (Thadius) Parrish; her sister Yolanda (Alfred) Owens; her uncle Dr. Rayford Nichols; five aunts: Ollie McCall, Emma Lott, Laura Walker, Gertie Williams, Margie High, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
