On August 19, 1961, Art married the former Mary Rosenberger in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and she survives along with their two children, Maria Gleason of Findlay and Sam (Ana) Newcomer of Alpharetta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Ty Gleason, Tara Gleason, Alexandra Newcomer, and Michael Newcomer; two sisters, Elsie Charles and Miriam (James) Haverstick; a brother, Ed Newcomer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Art was also preceded in death by his brother Earl Newcomer.
A member of Bethel Mennonite Church in West Liberty, Art had worked as a social worker, realtor, insurance/financial planner, and basketball official. Throughout his life, he possessed a lifelong interest for gardening, sports, and traveling. Art was currently serving as chairperson for the West Liberty Historical Society Opera House Renovation Committee.
Pastor Rebecca Kauffman will officiate a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Bethel Mennonite Church, 416 Washington Street in West Liberty, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m.
Memorial contribution may be made, in Art's memory, to the West Liberty Historical Society Opera House Renovation, P.O. Box 159, West Liberty, Ohio 43357.
