Scott Low, 50, died on June 19, 2019, after succumbing to injuries from an accident sustained days earlier.

Scott was born Dec. 21, 1968, to Janet Sue (Toney) and Gregory Lee Low in Torrance, Calif. The family moved to Lancaster, Calif., when Scott was a toddler, and he remained in the Antelope Valley until he was 20 years old. He graduated from Paraclete High School in 1987 and obtained an Associate of Science degree from Antelope Valley Community College in 1989.

Scott never considered a career in fire service until the California Conservation Corps assigned him to a fire camp outside Paradise, Calif. He spent a year and a half in the CCC fighting wildland fires and working on conservation projects, then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at California State University, Chico and went to work for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Scott moved to Casper in 1994 and joined the Casper Fire Department in 1997. He was an EMT-Intermediate and a Hazmat Tech. He attained the rank of captain and was assigned to C Platoon at Station 6 at the time of his death. Scott traveled the state advocating for firefighter safety and was the EGH Region 8 representative.

Scott met and began dating Anne Bowline his senior year in high school at Paraclete. They married six years later. He fell in love with Wyoming as a kid, when family members from California and Michigan began meeting on the Green River near Pinedale for family reunion camping trips, a tradition that continues after nearly 60 years.

Scott is survived by his wife Anne; brother Brad (Karista) of Cody; aunts and uncles Liz and Danny Low of Lancaster, Calif., and Sheila and Doug Wall of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; grandmother Juanita Low of Lancaster, Calif.; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather. He also lost three members of the fire service during his time on the job: CFD Captains Jeff Atkinson and Matt Trott, and Cal Fire Captain Bruce Yuhasz, his mentor.

Services will be held Saturday, June 29, at 2 p.m. at Faith Assembly of God Church, Casper. Reception to follow at Yellowstone Garage, 355 W. Yellowstone Highway, Casper.

CASPER, Wyo. — A celebration of life with fire service honors has been planned in the memory of Captain Scott Low.

It was announced last week that Low, a Captain with Casper Fire-EMS, died as a result of an off-duty accident.

The service is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 2:00 pm. The service will be held at Faith Assembly of God Church at 4301 Casper Mountain Road.

A funeral procession with then commence from the service to a reception.

The reception is scheduled for when the procession arrives, at Yellowstone Garage Bar & Grill, 355 W. Yellowstone

“All are welcome to attend the celebration of life. A procession from Faith Assembly of God to the reception site will occur,” Casper Fire-EMS says. “With participation from Natrona County agencies.”

Procession route:

– Begin – Faith Assembly of God Church
– North on Casper Mountain Road
– Right on S. Durbin St., continue North
– Left on E. 1st St., proceed West past Fire Station 1
– Left on S. Elm St., proceed South
– Conclude – Yellowstone Garage Bar & Grill

A 22-year veteran of the Casper Fire-EMS Department passed away Wednesday morning after being injured in an off-duty accident, the fire department said.

"His presence, laughter, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by his fellow firefighters and friends," Andersen said in a news release.

Low is survived by his wife. Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Low was qualified as an advanced EMT. Before joining the Casper Fire-EMS Department, he served in the California Department of Forestry for three years, Andersen said.

"He was a champion of firefighter safety, instructing countless Wyoming firefighters in the 16 life safety initiatives of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's 'Everyone Goes Home' program," Andersen said.

Andersen did not describe the circumstances of Low's death. Further details were not immediately available.
