She was born in Baton Rouge in 1915, and married the late J. Harvey Roberts, LSU professor of zoology and entomology. They were longtime residents of University Acres. More recently, she resided at St. James Place in Baton Rouge. She graduated in education from LSU and taught sixth grade at Highland Elementary School.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Lyman W. Roberts and wife Nancy, Dr. Owen D. Roberts and wife Sylvain, and Dr. Alden W. Roberts and wife Anita; grandchildren, Jeffrey O. Roberts, Stephanie Roberts Braman and Ruth Eleanor Roberts Stearns, Bryan W. Roberts, Kerry A. Roberts and John Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Sean Roberts, Ryan Roberts and Kenneth Braman. She is also survived by her sister, Vida Vignes Broussard; and brother, Frederick Lyman Vignes.
"Aunt E," as Eleanor was known to her nephews and nieces, was famous for her baking, especially cookies and other desserts. She was a member of the LSU Music Club, supporter of the Baton Rouge Symphony and an amateur ornithologist who often participated in the annual Audubon Society bird census. All her life she embodied the characteristics of love described in I Corinthians Chapter 13. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
