She was born January 2, 1941 in Wayne County, the daughter of Francis A. and Laura J. Pailliotet Besancon. She married Stephen W. Tope on April 17, 1998. He survives.
Mary Jane had been a telephone operator for a number of years, had worked at Buehler’s, Ponderosa, Ryans and had worked at the College of Wooster in Food Service. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was her mother’s caregiver for many years, a hard worker and had an amazing memory for dates and telephone numbers. Mary Jane was also known for her beautiful hand writing.
Surviving are her step-children, Grace R. (Allen) Yoder and Stephen W. Tope, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael L. Conrad, Malachi D. Yoder and Matthew W. Yoder; siblings: Eileen Nicholas, Raymond (Rosemary) Besancon, Dick (Lea Ann) Besancon and Ron (Paulette) Besancon; a sister-in-law, Betty Besancon and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Patty Kinney and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Joseph Besancon, Bernadette Besancon, Adrian Besancon, Beatrice Garver and Vince Besancon, a sister-in-law, Louise Besancon and brothers-in-law, Richard Garver and Tony Nicholas.
Friends will be received at the McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 4-6:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 527 Beall Ave., Wooster with Rev. Stephan Moran officiating. Burial will be in the Nashville Cemetery.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church, PO Box 109, Wooster, OH 44691 or to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
