James Henry "Jimmy" Campbell, 89 of Rt. 2 died at 8:27 pm Friday, January 5, 1996 in Herrin Hospital. Mr. Campbell was a retired coal miner and mine inspector, having worked at several area mines. He last worked at Freeman No. 4 mine. He was of the Protestant faith, a member of Herrin's Prairie Masonic Lodge, UMWA, Herrin Eagles, active in Coal Belt League and other area sports, Herrin Senior Citizens and was a Democratic precinct committeeman. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home is in charge and burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery.
He was born April 22, 1906 in Herrin to Thomas and Alice (George) Campbell. He married Katie Conrath April 14, 1930 in South Bend IN and she survives. Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Alice Campbell of Butler PA; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Jessie Campbell of Freeman Spur, Bryan and Teresa Campbell of Energy and LaDonna and Bobby Young of Butler PA, and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, John and Cleo Campbell; 2 sisters, Nancy Hood and Maggie Pedigo and brother-in-law, Harry Conrath.
