Stella was the 19-year-old daughter of W.D. Baird and Minnie Barrett Baird. Stella developed diabetes, and then contracted tuberculosis. She died in the Western North Carolina Sanitorium.

She was survived by her parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers.
