Calvin Henry Bryson, 79, of Council Bluffs died Dec. 12 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.

He was born in Council Bluffs on May 29, 1924, to William and Frances Iola Bryson. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1943 and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 47 years, retiring at age 66.

Bryson was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church, where he also served as a Trustee. He was also a member of Cobia Lodge 631 and Tangier Shrine Omaha. He was a past patron in Harmony Chapter No. 25 Order of Eastern Star and volunteered with his wife, Helen, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Carter) Bryson, of Council Bluffs, to whom he had been married 60 years. He is also survived by his children, Janet L. Moore and husband, Richard, of Mason City; Kevin Bryson and wife, Bonny, and Ramah Lee Bryson, both of Council Bluffs, and Ronald Bryson and wife, Linda, of Radcliffe, Ky.; grandchildren, Scott and Stacey Moore, Chris and Tami Bryson, Jon Moore, Shane Bryson, Benjamin Bryson and Amanda Bryson; great-grandchildren, Bianca Bryson and Brianne Moore; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two special nephews, James Hilz and wife, Marianna, and Steven Hilz and wife, Joanne; six very special grandnieces and nephews, and a sister, Eleanor Wall, of Council Bluffs.

A Masonic Lodge service was held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Visitation with the family followed. The funeral was today at 10 a.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Arnpriester officiating. Burial was at Garner Township Cemetery.
