"E.C. Hill died Tuesday night and was buried at Belle Plain Cemetery yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. E.C. Hill was born in Kentucky, July 13, 1851 and was 68 years and 2 months old at the time of his death. He came to Callahan County in 1876 and has lived practically all the time on his farm south of Belle Plains. Some months ago he bought a home in Baird and has lived here since. He is survived by his wife, nee Miss Ida Cutbirth, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Sam Cutbirth, Sr., two sons, Dr. V.E. Hill and Ernest Hill and two daughters, Misses Ruby and Lucile Hill and all were present at his bedside when he passed away. He has two brothers: Jim and Dave Hill of Oklahoma and three sisters: Mrs. M. Franklin and Mrs. Price McFarlane of Baird and Mrs. Jennie Gilliland of Abilene, all were present at the funeral. Other out of town relatives who were here to attend the funeral were: Mr. & Mrs. Sam Cutbirth, Sr. of Reagan County, C.S. Boyles and family of Cross Plains. There were many friends and neighbors present to pay a last tribute of respect to the deceased.
The following old friends acted as pallbearers: Judge Otis Bowyer, L.M. Hadley, Willie James, J.Y. Gilliland, J.I. McWhorter, and L.L. Blackburn. The funeral was in charge of H. Schwartz. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Jno. Collier at the Methodist Church and at the cemetery. Dr. Collier made a good talk, as he always does.
Cliff Hill was a good man and a good citizen, successful in his chosen life work, farming and stock raising, and owned one of the best farms in the county.
We extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives."
